People not only reported unusual atmospheric events, animal behaviour and electronic malfunctions before earthquakes. Some also said they saw leaves of plants fluttering in otherwise still conditions. In laboratory experiments Ikeya exposed plants to EM pulses and found leaves and stems responded to fluctuating electric charge in ways similar to those described before earthquakes

In this video laboratory EM effects on mimosa - whose leaves close and stems bow - gypsophila, orchids, cut flowers, spinach and lettuce are similar to plant behaviour reported before large earthquakes. There were also reports of garden grass browned at the tips and dead plants along the fault line

Yellow horizontal bars like scorch lines have been reported on rice plants before earthquakes and plants have been shorter than usual. Laboratory electric field experiments created similar effects
